The Pad Dubai

The Pad in Dubai currently under construction is said to be the most technologically advanced residential building on the planet. The architectural theme is deeply embedded in futuristic technology where creature comforts take precedent over strict architectural design.

There’s even a name for this genre, labeled Cybertecture by James Law, an accomplished architect who practiced at Gensler International before opening James Law Cybertecture International on the first day of the year 2001.

Generation Y Not

Don’t look now but Generation Y (that’s people in their 20’s) is already beginning to influence new condo amenities, and any condo lifestyle accounting for Gen Y foretells a future filled with high tech goodness.

While we still mostly think of urban condos as an oasis for middle-age urban professionals and empty nesters who have moved back to the city, Generation Y now with a combined US earning power of $1.6 trillion wants to change that perception and change lock-n-go living even more. Continue…

Have A Seat

Almost a year ago Konstantin Grcic designed the simply brilliant MYTO chair. MYTO, considered to be a modern day update to Paton’s S-Shaped chair, was very warmly received and perhaps made Grcic the world’s preeminent modern day chair designer.

Most Livable Cities

Last year CLM reported the findings of Mercer Human Resources Group who had rated the World’s Most Livable Cities. While Mercer is a respected global HR consultant, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is an equally respected source of global city data. So for 2008 CLM will turn to EIU to present this year’s list of cities who win the title of “Most Livable.”

A Grain Of Salt
The first thing to acknowledge about any “study” involving ranking of cities is that the selections will invariably contain some degree of subjectivity.

Drive Smart

A gasoline powered mode of transportation in the US named Smart Car may understandably be a painful oxymoron to some. After all we live in a time when global scientists tell us that automobiles do nothing but add to the atmospheric green house gases said to play a major role in a pending human demise.

Those pedagogic observers may be right, but practical seeking everyday Americans (the “Joe six packs” Sara Palin appeals to) just searching for a way to reduce their Continue…
